GW Culture – the tangible vs. the intangible

These five pillars above represent the more tangible or measurable qualities of the program.  But there is another aspect to the GW experience that, though it cannot be quantified, should not be overlooked. Just as companies have a corporate culture, so too do business schools and EMBA programs. This culture is the thread that ties the other elements together – it is the single unifying force that takes a robust curriculum, an outstanding student body, an inspiring faculty, a high-tech business building and a myriad of premium services and weaves them into a program. The culture permeates everything.  And, what kind of culture will you find in GW’s EMBA program?

Those who visit campus, meet the people and take the time to immerse themselves, even for a brief time, all say the same thing. GW EMBAs are different. They’re accomplished but not boastful; they’re serious but not standoffish; they’re intellectual, savvy and resourceful leaders who understand the value of each member of the team and the community as a whole. They are business people with a public conscience.

That’s what you’ll find at GW – a refreshing down-to-earth quality, a collaborative, cooperative environment, and a learning community void of all pretense and sham.

It’s more than just an education, it’s a way of life – the GW way.

The Five Pillar Approach – The Essential Elements of an Outstanding Program

Robust, Evolving Curriculum

In today’s competitive marketplace, an organization’s products and services must be continuously evaluated and modified to meet the changing needs of its customers. This is true for all types of organizations. The Executive MBA program is built on a strong foundation of course work that spans all of the business disciplines. It is rich in content, combining core elements with advanced topics, and is designed to be both rigorous and relevant. But, most importantly, the curriculum is not stagnant. It is reviewed on a yearly basis to ensure its relevance, update its materials and expand its reach by exploring new topics and trends in the global marketplace.

High Caliber Students

Every EMBA class has remarked that one of the most valuable aspects of the EMBA experience is the propensity to learn from the other members of the class. Leadership is not defined by any one industry or functional expertise. As such, the typical EMBA class has representatives from all types of organizations of varying sizes – from large multinational corporations to small businesses; from government entities to private practices; and from national associations to small non-profit organizations. The diversity in the class creates a dynamic learning environment where participants benefit from shared experiences and new perspectives.

Top Echelon Faculty

Building on GW’s greater than 100 years experience in management education, a select full-time faculty team leads the Executive MBA program. These faculty are recognized internationally for outstanding research and practice in the disciplines relating to the EMBA, and a number are recipients of national and international awards and honors. In addition to their scholarly contributions to major journals and research symposia, Executive MBA faculty are distinguished for their consulting with top private and public organizations. Many have previously served in an executive capacity in corporations and public institutions.

Excellent Facilities

In January 2006, the School of Business opened its new complex, the newly constructed Ric and Dawn Duquès Hall and the renovated Norma Lee and Morton Funger Hall. This complex provides students, faculty, and staff with a unified center for study and career development activities. Located at the corner of 22nd and G Streets, Ric and Dawn Duques Hall brings the School's academic and research units under one roof, featuring state-of-the-art technologies in tiered classrooms, team rooms, career center, computer labs, and the capital markets room, where students can access real-time quotes and use proprietary software for financial modeling, trading and portfolio management. The sixth floor is home to the Executive MBA Program and the BearingPoint Executive Education Center, which comprises two tiered classrooms, an executive board room, multiple break out rooms and conference facilities.

Unparalleled Student Services

Understanding that Executive MBA students must balance full-time, successful careers with all the demands of mature, personal lives, the administrative staff of the program provide a superior level of support for students to ensure efficient use of their valuable time.  Services such as registration for classes, ordering of textbooks, cases and course-specific software, assistance with financial aid, communications and transfer of materials to faculty are provided. Catering for breakfast, lunch and breaks is provided on class days, as is on-site parking, and all airline and hotel reservations are made for the residency courses. In addition to the services being truly exceptional, they are delivered with the utmost professionalism.
