Admissions
Admission to the Executive Master of Business Administration Program
at The George Washington University’s School of Business is
competitive. To meet the requirements, candidates should have the
following:
A
note on the GMAT: A competitive score on the Graduate Management
Admission Test (GMAT) will be required for prospective EMBA students
who do not have the requisite years/type of work experience but who
exhibit exemplary undergraduate academic preparation and possess
otherwise exceptional talents.
Application Process
The process for applying to the Executive MBA Program is slightly
different from the application process for our other GW Graduate
Programs. There are two phases to the EMBA application process: the
preliminary application and the full application. The following
information is designed to guide you through both phases of this
process. If, at any time, you have questions, need clarification or
would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact
Sarah Aleksich (e-mail:
saleksic@gwu.edu; tel:
202-994-3033) or Christine Kiely (e-mail:
ckiely@gwu.edu;
tel: 202-994-4856).
Preliminary Application
The Preliminary Application is actually comprised of elements from the
Full Application and provides interested individuals with an
opportunity to receive preliminary feedback from the admissions
committee before having to complete the entire application.
Pre-applicants’ credentials are evaluated to determine whether they
are likely to be competitive with the broader applicant pool. Use of
the preliminary application assists potential candidates in deciding
if it is appropriate to approach their employers regarding the
necessary Organizational Commitment Form and/or possible financial
support. Information provided is held in strict confidence.
Applicants’ employers will not be notified.
Elements of the preliminary application include:
-
General Application (see below*)
-
Resume
-
Statement of Purpose (see below**)
-
Preliminary Interview (with an alumnus in your area)
-
$60 application fee
* General Application - The general application can be
filled out in one of two ways:
1) The general
application and the supporting forms (the transcript request form and
the recommendation form, both submitted during the second phase of the
application process) can be downloaded (pdf) from the following
link:
http://www.gwu.edu/~gradinfo/Admission_downloadprint.cfm
2) If you prefer to
fill out the general application online using the “Apply Yourself”
system, please click
here. As you fill out the application, simply select EMBA from the
drop-down list of study options.
** Statement of
Purpose – In lieu of the broader statement of purpose defined in
the graduate application, please discuss your professional objectives,
both long- and short-term. Indicate how your past experiences have
contributed to the definition of these objectives. Why do you want to
pursue an EMBA at this point in your career? Please discuss any
related qualifications, including professional and community
activities, and any other substantial accomplishments that distinguish
you from other qualified applicants. (Limit to two pages, 500 words.)
Early submission of the preliminary application is strongly
encouraged. As indicated, an interview with an alumnus of the
Executive MBA program is required during this preliminary phase of the
application process. After submission of the preliminary application,
applicants will be contacted by an alumnus of the program to arrange
for a convenient meeting time. Review of the preliminary application
is made and feedback given to the applicant shortly thereafter.
Full Application
If the preliminary application yields a favorable response, the
candidate is encouraged to pursue full admission to the Executive MBA
program by completing the application process. At this time, the
candidate will be asked to provide all supporting documentation
including:
-
Three Letters of Evaluation;
-
Transcripts from each post-secondary institution
attended; and
-
Organizational Commitment Form.
In addition, a final interview will be required with a member of the
Executive MBA leadership team from the George Washington University.
Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. The final deadline
for the preliminary application is June 30th, and the deadline for the
full application is July 15th. However, the EMBA
program cannot guarantee that seats will still be available at that
time. Seats in the entering class are limited, and early submission
of the completed application is strongly encouraged. Applications are
considered complete when all of the required materials have been
received. Full applications are reviewed upon completion and
admission decisions are made soon after. Candidates are notified
immediately, and the program begins in mid-August.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this material. We look
forward to the opportunity to get to know you better and to the
possibility of welcoming you with our next incoming class!!
